Our government has also told everyone not to hold non-essential events with more than 500 attendees. But only from Monday. For some reason, it's okay to gather in large crowds over the weekend, but not from Monday onwards.

And, after these two announcements, our illustrious Prime Minister Scott Morrison was on television this afternoon, saying he will still be going to a football match tomorrow (the NRL is allowing fans into stadiums for Round 1 this week, but locking fans out from next week onwards).

Morrison was in contact with the Home Affairs Minister at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, after the Peter Dutton had returned from the USA (where he likely caught the coronavirus). Morrison should therefore now be self-isolating, as per the advice issued by his own medical experts. Instead, he's going to take himself, and his possible coronavirus infection, to a mass event of the type that they've now recommended be cancelled.

    What a fucking idiot.

EDIT: Scott Morrison has cancelled his plans to attend the football tomorrow. According to a spokesman: "After further consideration and the potential for the Prime Minister’s attendance to be misrepresented, the Prime Minister has chosen not to attend the match this weekend. The Prime Minister believes this would avoid any unnecessary confusion about his attendance."

Here in The Netherlands, we have 614 confirmed cases, population of 17M (and small land area, so quite close together).

      Government advice as of yesterday:

      • work at home if possible
      • do not visit the sick or elderly
      • if sick or elderly don't use public transport
      • stay at home if symptoms (coughing, fever, pain in throat)
      • Limit social contact
      • Gatherings with more than 100 people are forbidden
      • If you work in hospital, only stay at home if coughing AND have a fever
      • schools stay open, to limit essential personnel to stay working and limit children visit elderly.

Let's see how that will help. It's quite likely they will need to become more strict in the coming days.
