As the presumptive nominee, Biden's lack of leadership during this crisis and lack of a counter-narrative leaves everyone believing Trump's doing a perfectly fine job. Absolutely unconscionable on Biden's part. The coronavirus seemed like the one thing that was capable of hauling Biden's impotent campaign across the finish line in the general election, but now it seems like he'll even bungle that.

I disagree. I think it is super easy to campaign right now. Talk about what your response plan for the pandemic would be and what the US should be doing. Talk about how you would handle this situation. Transition from campaign mode to help-people mode. I know sanders and warren campaigners in multiple states that are working to help their communities in the crisis. They're organized and running errands for the elderly to help limit their exposure. They're making sure literature about how to stay safe are spread throughout the community in multiple languages. They're working with the city on plans to help get resources to our local homeless population. Actually impact and help communities. Prove you care about people and want to help them and not just about their vote. Warren isn't even running anymore and is doing a better job than Biden is. At least she released and has been updating her plan

Edit: I want to clarify that these workers using the established network of the local campaign to do this, not just that a bunch of progressives are out doing something. The actual campaigns have headed this effort.

That just sounds like Biden would be LARPing the presidency, and while there would be psychological benefits by people assuming that the adults are back in charge, they're not really, because it's not January 2021 yet, and Biden is just a guy. Could Biden be spending his time better than saying, "Now I'm not the president, but I will tell you what now..." or is that all that his options allow?

That.... literally what campaigning is. It is pointing out things that are wrong with the country and (1) how you would handle it and (2) why your way of handling it is better. If he cannot explain to me what about Trump's response to the pandemic has been right/wrong and how he would handle it, why should I as a voter have any trust that he could handle a similar situation? If I am a voter, why should I trust that Biden is better equipped to handle a global market meltdown or another pandemic if he can't/won't say what he would do. At this point in time, the two biggest issues facing America are (1) Global Pandemic (2) Probable economic collapse. Yes. He should be out there talking about what his fucking plans are otherwise what good is he.

Biden hasn't campaigned yet, why would he start now? The apparent approval of Trump's actions so far, and Biden's success in the primaries, have really highlighted to me how much of an information bubble I live in. As in, there is actually information in this bubble. It is not that hard to see what other countries are doing - Taiwan and South Korea come to mind - the fact we are hitting the economy so hard right now was totally avoidable. That there even is a crisis in the first place is an absolute failure by the Trump administration.

Yeah, granted. We have our own right-wing nutcases these days. AfD has some serious knuckleheads at the top and the current CDU leadership isn't convincing me either, save for Merkel, who will move on soon.

I could barely disagree with Mutti Merkel any more, but I fear I will miss her very soon after the next election.

I do however have high hopes that at least the outright right-wing people will be denied a shot at govt. participation. Please let this young man dream :D

I'm learning these days that renouncing US citizenship is not that easy - but at the same time kind of necessary if you want to be done with that shit show. My partner is a dual citizen and tax stuff is going to be a joy. Did you know that the US is the only country (that I know of, and as far as I know the only country at all) that taxes their citizens abroad? I did my partner's US tax declaration and it was not exactly a joy. Now I learned that most german banks/brokers won't even touch an american citizen with a ten foot pole when it comes to investment accounts because of the sheer tax bullshittery it causes. And I'm not going to leave my comfy consumer protection laws and invest at a US bank, oh no good sir. So no shared investment account.

And giving up citizenship nets you a cool 2000 bucks and change just to get them to look over the paperwork. And they won't let you go if it's for financial reasons. 'bout as possessive and controlling as ye ole crazy ex.

The US needs a serious case of brain drain. That way they'll either get their shit together or become irrelevant. Get out while you still can.

Yup. Based on my research it is the only country. I would be open to not renouncing my citizenship if the US didn't pull the tax bullshit. But between not wanting to pay taxes to the US if I never want to live here and how impossible it makes investing in a lot of other countries it is a no-brainer to renounce IMO.

As an American living abroad, you're exempt from US taxes on the first $120,000 of foreign-earned income every year. The tax bullshit isn't that bad for most people unless you start earning a whole lot of money.

Furthermore, Japan also claims world tax and will tax it's citizens (and permanent residents) for income earned abroad.

It's not really the issue of tax bullshit being expensive per se. It's that you need a highly specialized accountant to get it all above board. And that most banks won't deal with you beyond a checking account because they don't want to deal with FATCA. So you can have a checking account and that's it. Having a mortgage is essentially a currency speculation deal because if the dollar changes value you might have made money on paper (paid back less in USD than you received) and owe taxes on that.

For someone who hasn't lived in the US for ten years, that's a big hassle over nothing. Or rather, over 1) reduced wait time when entering the country every few years and 2) getting a vote in the world's biggest idiot contest.

I mean, if you're temporarily living abroad - sure, whatever, you're going to need it anyway and you probably have enough roots in the US to keep most of your business there anyway. But my partner has to ask their unreliable dad for his current address anytime she wants to do business in the US - like filing taxes. (As an aside - TurboTax is advertised as "sure, if you're under X$/a we'll do your taxes for free, even if you're abroad." but when it came down to it, we couldn't register for the free version with a german address, so we would have to use the paid version.... which you can't pay for without a US billing address. WTF? How is that supposed to work? Keep in mind TurboTax sprung that on me after I already filled all the forms and was ready to send it off.)

Given the whole Trump-Russia thing, that's probably the whole point.

We live in a clown-led society. From what I recall most of the action is coming from state governments and the Fed.

The uptick was largely driven by 8-point bumps in approval among Democrats (from 18 percent to 26 percent) and independents (from 43 percent to 51 percent), while positive sentiment among GOP voters rose from 83 percent to 87 percent.

I agree. It's happening in Italy and their death rates are nearing 1 in 10, which is comparable to Iraq. They do have 1144 cases per million though so to reach their situation the US would need to reach 370 thousand cases so it's still a while (2-3.5 weeks if nothing changes) away.
