DeSantis quietly signs second order overruling all local coronavirus orders, including church bans

DeSantis’s original order Wednesday, which required Floridians to stay at home until April 30, superseded all local government shelter-in-place or stay home orders. But it still allowed local governments to impose or keep their own stricter requirements if they wanted, an option now barred by the governor’s latest order.

One major effect could be that the large religious gatherings banned in many counties by local shutdown orders — and which led to the arrest of a Tampa-area mega church pastor — might be allowed again.

“Our hospitals better get ready, that’s all I’ve got to say,” Hillsborough County Commission chairman Les Miller said of the new order.
