This is going to be a big issue all over the world. The CDC released some data today that suggests that New York City's death count is over 5000 lower than it should be, and there have been many similar findings in other places. I posted an article over a month ago about a similar analysis for some areas of Italy.

It makes it even more insane that a significant number of Americans think the numbers are being falsely inflated, when it's more likely that they're actually far too low.

From the article: Also, here is a chart of daily death tolls in many countries.

    From the article:

The Financial Times’ analysis of all-cause mortality data in Moscow, the capital, and St Petersburg, Russia’s second-largest city, found 2,073 more deaths in April relative to the historical average of the previous five years.

Official Covid deaths in the two cities came to just 629 for the same period, leaving 1,444 deaths in excess of normal mortality levels unaccounted for. If added to the reported national figure of 2,009 Covid deaths as of Monday morning, this would mean a 72 per cent increase in Russia’s national death toll.

Also, here is a chart of daily death tolls in many countries.

the practices that led to it remain virtually unchanged

I am skeptical as well, but I'm not sure what you mean by this? I haven't paid enough attention to China's lockdown, but I thought they did a much more severe lockdown than elsewhere? Internal travel entirely shut down, dormitories to separate people, and so on?
