    Media release from the Ministry of Health. As far as I'm aware, this makes New Zealand the first country to have experienced a significant COVID-19 outbreak, and then achieved elimination[1].

    [1]: Of course, even with closed borders and 2 weeks of forced quarantine, citizens returning will inevitably bring COVID-19 back to NZ shores. So it is a very tenuous definition of elimination. Additionally, there is statistically still a chance of unreported or asymptomatic transmission occurring locally, but with 17 days since the last reported case, the odds of this drop each day.

    Nonetheless, this is a significant accomplishment, and should allow us to return our economy to normal—bar the tourism sector, which deserved this anyway :P.
