    I worked with children with special needs, many on the moderate-to-severe spectrum of autism, for several years. I don't know think people understand what that end of the spectrum really entails....

It's tough. To the point where I think—though it is a spectrum—conflating people on the lower end (i.e. "Asperger's") is almost disingenuous.

    Anyhow, I certainly empathize with these parents. A 6-hour shift with the support of others could certainly be exhausting for me! Though, I generally look fondly back at that time. Getting to know the kids and generating a rapport, helping them learn, and watching them grow (it was about an 8 year stint, for me...saw some kids go from elementary to high-school) was pretty fulfilling.
