It's even more poignant as we learn that organized anti-abortion types are about as honest as their motivations would imply. "We'd never go after women for having abortions, only the providers!"...

"We'd never go after women for having abortions, only the providers!" Followed by several states planning on making getting an abortion a murder charge.

"We don't object to saving the mother's life, we just don't want abortion to be used as birth control!" Followed by several states planning on making laws that have no exceptions, even to save a woman where the fetus is non-viable, whilst simultaneously outlawing birth control.

Let's call it what it is: a government-run forced breeding program to keep the "domestic supply of infants" where the privileged that need a baby can easily adopt one, rights of the incubators be damned.

It's a puppy mill program for humans, and it's frankly disgusting.

I think it’s got little to do with infant supply. It’s a way to keep the poor poor. “Oh you can’t fly to California to get an abortion? That’s too bad. Should’ve thought about that before you...

Wealthy people don’t need abortions for the same reasons that poor people might. If you’re wealthy then a surprise pregnancy means a major shift in priorities and a different allocation of budget. If you’re poor it can mean your one good chance at getting out of poverty is on hold. Maybe forever. They pretend like the stakes aren’t so high when shaming women for getting an abortion.

Keeping the poor in their place is a good side benefit (and them being poor is what makes it possible to have a supply chain without the entire nation having it banned), but the issue is that fresh newborns are going out of style (because less people are having children) and barren well-to-do folk don't like having to get a 2-year old like they're picking up a stray from the pound.

It makes logical sense...if you don't want kids, you're probably on contraceptives, so if you get pregnant you're more likely to want an abortion than someone not on contraceptives. These people...

These people are the edge cases of contraceptive users, and I'd guess a pretty accurate measure of contraceptive improvement over time.

A now-topical article about how how "just use birth control" isn't really as fool-proof of an abortion prevention method as many say it is, even if it's still necessary regardless.

In 2014, about half (51%) of abortion patients in the United States reported that they had used a contraceptive method in the month they became pregnant, according to a new analysis by Guttmacher researcher Rachel Jones. This proportion represents a slight decrease from 54% of abortion patients in 2000, the last time these data were examined. The methods most commonly used by abortion patients in 2014 were condoms (24% of patients) and the pill (13%)
