I'm pleasantly surprised to see it hasn't simply been substituted with vaping. That's not to say that vaping is equivalent to smoking, but being able to fully quit does seem better than replacing one vice with another.
Congratulations to all those that have ended a (for some) multiple decades addiction. I hope that means we start to see more positive numbers reflected in cancer rates and overall lifespan.
Vaping was honestly the key for me being able to ditch it, particularily filling my own vape pen.
I was able to get a strong nicotine and a 0 nicotine with same flavor, and was able to step down gradually over time. More like going down a gentle slope than a cliff.
After that, it was easier to break the various rituals one by one. And if there was a relapse of a rituial, it was typically falling back to a vape.
That said, I dislike how vaping is being marketted and displayed behind counters now.
IMO the best thing we could do is ban all branding and advertising for all drugs (alcohol inclusive imo). A simple sign 'we carry tobacco products, ask to see a price list' should be all thats permitted, and you get a plain cardboard box.
If only vape sales were limited to existing cigarette smokers.
This study does not appear to address the issue of non-cigarette tobacco use.
I would suspect vaping and other nicotine consumption have risen, although o would also suspect overall tobacco use has declined significantly.
