I wonder if groups of predominately masculine-identifying people would have different results.

Well, as a masculine-identifying individual (although maybe not seen that way amongst giga-Chads) that very regularly exercises and is generally quite anxious (though, I've never been diagnosed with GAD (however, I have been prescribed lorazepam for panic attacks (which I never ended up taking)))), I can't say that I've noticed it effecting my levels of anxiety.

Then again, who knows what kinda mess I'd be if I were to stop now.

I had an ex that was female who had both severe anxiety and an exercise addiction. Just because something works at the population level does not mean it works for each individual in the population. Similarly, it's hard to abstract how severe one person is in relation to another (or which specific symptoms they suffer more or less from) and how responsive they are to a specific drug or treatment regimen. I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with anxiety and I hope you find your relief soon!

I’ve been meaning to write a real pandemic write-up one of these days, but I can attest to exercise lowering anxiety. During the pandemic I found cycling to be my main outlet to relieve stress as well as to…go out.

That being said, it’s certainly not a panacea as I definitely had a panic attack or two while in my prime of exercising daily.

I wonder if the group setting played an important role in yielding the positive results?

I do wonder about this as well, since I spent a lot of time alone in the pandemic and perhaps having more social interaction could have been it’s own therapy.

Ditto. While exercise undeniably helps lower my anxiety and boost my mood, the raised heart rate from doing it also increases my odds of having a panic attack, especially if I push myself a bit...

Ditto. While exercise undeniably helps lower my anxiety and boost my mood, the raised heart rate from doing it also increases my odds of having a panic attack, especially if I push myself a bit too far. So it's definitely a double-edged sword. :(
