Who else partakes in worldbuilding/mapmaking and those sorts of things?

Looking for some worldbuilding buddies here on tildes.

What's a brief history on your current world?

What's your favorite creation? Person, animal, location, etc.

Anyway, my last world was a post-apocalyptic world. Something if a dystopian world, I guess. There was a great war that wiped out a large amount of the population of the world, and my world was the result of that

The world is a bit of a wasteland (think Mad Max). There are different factions, but the most powerful faction is led by Smag, who is a large brutish fella.

What's the smallest faction? How'd they come into existence?

I haven't gotten that far yet. I kind of dropped off writing it when my friends moved away. Have no one to play it with now D:

My world has no real name, but it's a world like and unlike our own where humans and the other animals we know don't exist at all. It's populated by various races of beast-like people.

The Sootoches are arboreal people like huge squirrels who live in treehouse villages and towns called roosts among the branches of the Highwood, which makes up most of the south and southeast of the northern continent Dametch. Their culture values learning and the keeping of historical records highly. The various roosts of the Highwood are governed from Zetor, which effectively serves like a capital city of our own world. Zetor a rather ancient city, dating back about three thousand years from the modern day, and is built around the tree Zetor which was planted to mark the end of a long period of warfare in the Highwood. They are Dametch's sole settled people.

The Savaks are ground dwelling larger relatives of the Sootoches who reside in the steppes north of the Highwood. They practise a nomadic lifestyle and largely live by the Savaki oxen that they herd in great numbers. The tribes which prefer the southerly parts of the steppe also trade the meat and hides with the Sootoches who consider them luxury and trade greatly for them. This has lead to those southern tribes being by far wealthier and better fed than their northern brothers who rarely if ever engage in trade, except sometimes among each other. The Savaks are sometimes stereotyped as warlike marauders, particularly on the southern continent Sern, but in reality warfare is no more common among them than it is in any other people.

The Tayuffa are perhaps the least known and understood by the other spoken races. They are the residents of the tundra beyond the mountains called Spring, which is north of the Savaki steppe. A tayuff resembles somewhat a cross between a mountain goat and a musk ox. Their harsh environment and lack of grasping ability means they can't enjoy many of the same utilities as southern people, like agriculture, writing, or textiles, but nonetheless they have a rich culture of their own. They live in around ten clans, the largest of which exceeds 1,200 tayuffa, which for most of the year split off into smaller family grounds that may be around ten tayuffa in size. The whole clan meets during the summer, when some greenery may sprout up among the permafrost and life becomes slightly more pleasant for the Tayuffa. Though they lack any form of writing, historic events and legends are often carved into cliff faces, rocks, and ice walls, serving both as reminders of the old stories, decoration, and as important landmarks used to mark meeting spots and prevent becoming lost in the tundra. The few outside travelers who have visited their territories remark that they are larger than life and, with the alien tundra laandscape, create a feeling of living among the world of legends; to the Tayuffa, they are home.

The Crie are wyvern-like people of Dametch's eastern coastlines. For much of history, Dametch's other spoken believed them to be mere beasts, for the Crie live in a manner that to the outside eyes appears hardly different to the lifestyle of seabirds. This arose from their aerial lifestyles; spending most of their time in flight to hunt, play, dance, and settle conflicts, it is impractical for them to carry worldly possessions, and thus they leave their generally few belongings in the sea caves or buried in the beaches where they rest. However, when an injured Sootoch traveler was helped to recoved by Crie, he saw that they did indeed live in the manner of people, having language, tools, and other things which he knew to be a great seperator between person and animal. After long effort, communication was established between the Crie flocks and the Highwood and they now trade goods and culture with one another; some few Crie have even left their flocks to live among the Sootoch roosts, finding their arboreal lives very foreign but generally compatible with their own abilities.

Their world has several other races but these four are the ones I have some level of information about (and this comment is long enough as is!). It's something I've been working on for pleasure on and off for a few years now.

I find myself constantly wanting to do something like this but never sitting down and actually doing it. I have one friend who's a complete history/linguistic nerd and she has really sat down and crafted a world with its own full language and whatnot, and I admire her dedication.

I have done some doodling in paint on occasion but I really don't know a thing about cartography or geology/geography. If anything maybe getting into this might teach me a thing or two about that.

Fairly nicely detailed doodle, I like it :) Geology is somewhat complicated yet fairly simple once you observe. I'm big into mapmaking, if you're interested in getting started definitely let me know!
