A saying I heard once is "Engage the ball not the player." Bad people can have good ideas, as can people we simply don't like. Obviously in the real world engaging with a bad/disliked person's good idea validates the bad through small things that aren't strictly logical, but exist.

I think it makes more sense if we provide a contradictory person: If Adolf instead insisted 2+2=4, but also that environmental scientists arrive to their analysis due to anti-capitalism, the validity of the former is also not undermined by the latter point, but by our perception of the person. I guess in line with the article, Adolf's opinion on environmental sciences may also shake one's faith in his mathematical abilities.

I may be processing more than I'm actually saying anything, but I guess I'm looking for the justification for a case that is a bias against an individual which isn't hate.

I think you made valid points about ad hominem in general; the article is about something related but also distinct. It says:

This fallacy is committed when it is inferred that a claim must be true because someone who disbelieves the claim is accused of hating the person who made the claim.

So, suppose that, IDK, Lady Gaga told everyone that hotdogs are sandwiches and she made a big deal out of it. You kinda like Lady Gaga yourself, but you post on Twitter: "Come on, dude, there's no way in hell that hotdogs are sandwiches!". Someone answers "Dude, I thought you were a little monster. Do you truly hate our queen?". Shortly after, you post "Now that I think of it, of course hotdogs are sandwiches, what do you think I am, a fucking Swifty?".

Consider the above my fellow kids moment :P
