The headline is a bit misleading, the punishment is 1 day in prison, 6 months of house arrest, 2 years of probation, and a $10,000 fine. His sentence is fairly light because he donated all the money ($610,000) to the sailing program, he didn't keep any of it for himself. His career has also been ruined by this. His actions were bad, but his intentions were pure.

I will be interested to see the sentences for the others involved in this.

What is the reasoning behind one day in prison? Just so it's on the record that he 'did time'?

If a headline is misleading, feel free to change it in your title before submission to correct that. There are no strict rules requiring using the headline as written here on Tildes for exactly that reason. Just try to use your best judgment to keep your changes objective, is all.

p.s. Speaking of which, I have edited the title to fix the issue.
