I need ideas for philosphical questions relating to technology. (More details below)

So I have a philosophy and rationality class in cegep. Currently, the topics are pretty general since that's well, what the class is about but well, those don't interest me as much as the debates around Open Access, Copyright, Open Data, Free Software, Piracy, etc. relating to technology

but well, in some of those cases, it would be hard for my teacher to be able to grade if what I'm saying is true so well, I'm creating this in the hopes that some of you have ideas for questions which might interest me but still be easy to enough for my philosophy teacher to well, be able to evaluate my work.

Of course I've already asked my teacher if I could do a question which isn't necessarily related to the class beforehand but he's a little scared of what I might come up with, hah.

The way you've phrased them make me think I could definitely make something out of it which is suitable for the class, if you have more, feel free to throw more.

I'll try to remember to send you what comes out of this if I pick one of your questions ;)

          Thanks!

This would be an excellent discussion. Basically the old, 'is it okay to steal bread for your starving family' question --- but with art / culture.

Basically, the paper needs to be structured as such :

      • Introduction
      • Popular theories on the question
      • Refutation of them (potentially)
      • Philosopher theories on the question
      • Refutation of them (potentially)
      • Own theory on the question
      • Conclusion

I don't think analysis of those topics would be suitable but I'm not sure. Maybe something along the lines of, atleast with one of the aspects of Papers Please which can be expanded way beyond.

"Are you responsible for what you do under an authoritarian power?", what I mean is, if being forced to do something out of fear of death or the death of others, should you still try to oppose it? If you don't, are you somehow approving of it by compliance? etc.

Thanks for the ideas, I could use some of those, I think.

Ann is 78. She has a pacemaker. Pacemaker batteries need to be changed, and Ann's pacemaker batteries need to be changed in a few months. She tells her cardiologist and pacemaker techs that she doesn't want the batteries to be changed - she's had enough and it's time for her to go.

    1. Is Ann trying to die by suicide?

    2. Should doctors accept her wishes to do this? What do they need to do to e sure her rights to life are correctly balanced with her rights to self determination for medical treatment?

I think that's hard to develop properly without going into law and psychology.. I'm not sure.

Perhaps you think I could get ideas from this?..
