    If you only know Orwell from 1984 and Animal Farm, do yourself a favor and pick up Homage to Catalonia. It shows the real life inspiration for his two novels, and as a bonus you get a thorough description of the pubic lice among the soldiers and a lovely scene where Orwell is nonfatally shot in his neck and then feels sorry for the person who shot him because they will probably assume they killed him.

    Orwell is most famous today for his fiction but imo his nonfiction is even better.
