I find it telling that blake says he has to craft his conversation in order to get good responses.

In case you wondered, no one who has anything beyond a passing understanding of current AI research thinks that the singularity is on the horizon.

But in another sense the AI takeover is well underway. There are already lots of things that software does better than people and the rate at which digital systems replace humans will only increase.

The interesting thing to me about AI, in the context of a theoretical self aware, self improving general intellience AI, is that even if it's a very long way off, the time to consider the implications is well before it happens.

Given the power of modern hardware, especially the hardware likely to be available to this theoretical system, the time between when it achieved true intelligence and the point where it evolved itself beyond any hope of human comprehension could be extremely short. We take decades to iterate one generation. An AI can iterate so much faster that by the time we realized what happened it might functionally be 1000's of years beyond us. In the minutes that followed, while we gaped or cheered, it might have advanced another 10k years, soon after, 100k, and so on.

It's a fascinating possibility... Or chilling depending on your perspective.
