Tennessee becomes the first state to pass a ban on drag shows. The bill is so vaguely worded it could also target trans people and Pride celebrations generally.

I feel like even with the current SCOTUS this has zero chance of standing up to a 1st Amendment challenge.

This is how the USA is seen in other countries: as the sort of place that can ban drag everywhere.

Seems weird that they’d think that. I guess the liberal states’ politics aren’t that famous.

        1. Most non-Americans are unaware of how big and diverse America really is, and kinda view all Americans as... Americans.

        2. Most non-Americans are blissfully ignorant of things that seem patently obvious to most Americans.

        3. Americans are famously ethnocentric and ignorant of other cultures. Y'all are getting better, but you still got a long way to go. Cut the Aussies some slack. (Although maybe not too much slack, Aussies have states, so should be better at understanding the distinction of state law vs federal law than most.)

I'll be interested to see the corporate flight and brain drain these culture war policies cause or accelerate.

Offtopic, but can anyone think of a tag that is the opposite of uplifting, for anyone who might want to filter out depressing shit like this? :(

I just worried that is too close to 'depression', which is already a valid tag regarding mental health. So I went with @9000's suggestion of 'downer' instead. :)
