What a world. I think these days, the student bodies are going accept this just fine, but (I presume) the school administration doesn't. When I came out while I was at a catholic high school (less than a decade ago), I was shockingly pole-vaulted into relevant popularity overnight, but the school responded to my news by setting me up with a school counselor that I had to visit every two weeks. No discipline ever happened for me coming out/etc, but the school keeping track of me via a counselor telegraphed that—should any nefarious actions on my part become known—that it was sort of a problem.
(Short of coming out, nothing "happened" for me in high school—I was too uncomfortable in my own skin at that point, so I had no opportunity to test the school's reaction to the administration learning about any, uh, activities. I'm confident, however, that something bad would have happened if I got a boyfriend and spread that information publicly.)
Every day that we get just a little more accepted is a good day :)

Oh nice, a "and then everybody started clapping" that is actually real and wholesome!
