And people say Facebook is liberal, even after this and their new policy about sexuality.

a Facebook spokesperson referred The Daily Beast to the company’s 2017 statement on political engagement which states that the company’s PAC, in evaluating candidates, “considers whether an individual candidate’s policy stances are consistent with Facebook’s public policy agenda and business interests, particularly the individual’s commitment to fostering innovation and an open Internet.”

The 2017 statement later clarifies that “a contribution to a candidate for office does not mean that we agree with every policy or position that candidate may espouse.”

Case closed, I'd say. Even I vote for and support political candidates despite not agreeing with every single policy they espouse; they're just the candidates with the closest match between their policies and mine. And I'm sure that just about everyone has voted for a candidate without agreeing with every single policy that candidate espouses.

It is common for large companies to give to candidates and PACs from both major political parties. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Facebook’s PAC gave $216,000 to Democrats in the 2018 cycle and a comparable $211,500 to Republicans.

Exactly. I used to work for a large corporation and I know they donated money to both major political parties (albeit not equally). The idea was to have a foot in the political door no matter which side won.

Facebook aren't analysing every single policy of every single candidate. They're just throwing money at all candidates, in the hope that they'll have some leverage when one of those candidates gets elected.
