I thought I could serve as an openly gay man in the army. Then came the death threats

The bit about hearing how closeted men who served coped with Don't Ask, Don't Tell and the advice they gave is kind of heartbreaking. I wished we could have spent more time hearing their stories...

It is so sad thinking about how we treated being gay in the military and in our culture as a whole until just a couple of years ago, and as this article demonstrates, it is still a huge issue of acceptance and tolerance from so many. The fact that even after DADT was repealed, that so many soldiers talked about how they had to meet secretly to confide in one another and provide support they are not getting is awful.
