This might be a somewhat controversial opinion, but this kind of feels like a non-story to me. Are any flags other than the American flag flown on embassy masts? Obviously Pence has a hostile and horrendous track record when it comes to LGBT issues, but this story in particular sort of feels like a mountain out of a molehill. According to the article, even one of the ambassadors who requested to fly the Pride flag felt that the restriction was reasonable (at least, there were 'no hard feelings').

"And we put no restrictions on displaying any other flags or any other displays at our embassies beyond that."

I'm not sure I've interpreted this correctly, but this seems to indicate that Pride flags (or any other) were allowed at embassies as long as they were not on the main staff, and other displays were similarly allowed. It's a bit unclear so I could be too charitable here but overall this doesn't seem like that huge of a deal.
