    The video in question

The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus says its members are being harassed online and receiving death threats after a satirical video that prominently features the phrase "we'll convert your children" went viral among conservatives.

"You think that we'll corrupt your kids if our agenda goes unchecked, buddy, just this once you're correct," the song's opening goes. "We'll convert your children, happens bit by bit, quietly and subtly and you will barely notice it. You can keep them from disco, warn about San Francisco, make them wear pleated pants, we don't care. We'll convert your children, we'll make them tolerant and fair."

Some right-wing social media users claimed that members of the chorus were registered sex offenders, but a check of a Megan's Law database conducted by SFist found that the members in question merely shared a name with offenders on the registry "who are registered hundreds of miles away from San Francisco."

I've seen these arguments thrown around by users on less tolerant Reddit clones a lot lately. They claim the LGBTQ community is trying to normalise or legalise paedophilia. I have not seen a single shred of substantiated evidence for this.

I really don't understand how they made this link because from my understanding, paedophilia is almost universally detested regardless of sexual orientation.

This has been an anti-gay talking point for decades. It has no basis other than prejudice, as it's about casting us as evil (or at the very least complicit) which makes subsequent hate for us or denial of our rights/dignity seem "justified". It also makes it so that anyone who would support us risks looking like a pedophile sympathizer in order to do so, which has an added silencing effect.

Like @Loire identified, it's not happening in good faith for the most part, and those that are acting in good faith don't realize they're standing on the shoulders of those who aren't. It's also not limited to gay people. The construct of [marginalized minority] + [association with evil] is a remarkably common and (sadly) very effective discriminatory tactic.

Even if we consider something like NAMBLA (which is unfortunately a real organization), that still represents only a fringe and strongly opposed position that tries to cling to our community for legitimacy despite us showing them the door repeatedly. Instead of acknowledging this, however, people who want to cast us as evil will use the existence of NAMBLA as summary judgment on our entire identity or community and be unwilling to hear anything to the contrary, as the truth that the LGBT community is actively opposed to pedophilia and childhood sexual abuse takes the wind out of their sails.

It’s an old and rather weak link, but it did exist. The condemnation of pedophilia and child sex abuse by society only seems to have firmed up by the 1990s. During the 1970s, there was a parallel...

The only one I'm aware of is NAMBLA, which thankfully went into heavy decline long before the South Park episode that made them known again.

NAMBLA was the main one, and the one linked with the ILGA (in the first link).

I wonder why the ILGA affiliated themselves with NAMBLA in the first place. Maybe they didn't look properly into what NAMBLA stood for?

NAMBLA is a rather obvious acronym. Like I said, I think this was a leftover of the 1970s more than anything.

Heck, it's not hard to find on the actual Reddit conservosphere. I know I read quite a few of them last weekend.
