Calling all people who have lived and/or worked in Yellowstone or other national parks

Next month I’m dropping everything and moving from Kentucky to work in Yellowstone with my girlfriend. I have been to other parks but never stayed more than one night and never taken on multi-day trails/hikes. To other users who have done something similar or stayed in national parks for extended periods of time, what advice do you have? Where are the “must see” parts of Yellowstone? What was the adjustment period like, and what are some safety precautions we should definitely take note of?

BE A GOOD STEWARD OF THE ENVIRONMENT. Most tourists do not observe proper park etiquette when going to one and it wrecks the beauty that people travel there to see. There are going to be specific things to consider based on the park you're visiting (google it, I live in Canada so can't help with Yellowstone NP). But more generally:

    • do not disrupt the wildlife
    • clean up after yourself
    • heed signage that's posted. You're there to respect the natural environment, not flaunt it for some stupid instagram photo to impress your bros back home. That's how people, the environment, and animals get hurt.
    • Bring basic first aid
    • Bring a backup method of communication or navigation if you can, if you're wandering off the beaten path.
    • Not sure what kind of wildlife is in YNP, but make sure your food can be secured from prying noses.
    • Are ticks a problem there? You can buy special tweezers for ticks. Make sure you check yourself before those fuckers wreck yourself.
    • Sunscreen, hats, etc.
    • Don't get drunk and noisy
