I can vouch for this. I love my 3-day weekends!

four on/three off would be a huge improvement to work life balance.

I used to do the 10 hour 4 day week. When I was brand new in my field I worked on a help desk for a large company supporting doctors and executives. I ended up moving to a 10 hour 4 day week, but it was kind of odd because my off day was Thursday. It was a fun time though.

Now I have to be available all day every day. So it isn't a matter of is x, y, and z all done.

My job is 4 days a week 8 hours a day, and I absolutely love it. I do sometimes have to work on evenings or weekends, but I get to take back that time during the week. It's also the only place I've worked that's relaxed about how we manage hours. As long as our hours add up, and we have enough staff present to keep the place open during office hours, we can manage our time as we like.

I only get paid for 32 hours a week. While I definitely wouldn't say no to getting paid for 5 days while working 4, I personally wouldn't trade the day off for a bit of extra money. Feeling like I have time to live my life outside of work is way more important.

I've seen this approach occur in government agencies since the 1980s. The problem is that the customers experience further delays -- "So-and-so is out on Friday, you'll have to wait until Monday"....

The problem is that the customers experience further delays -- "So-and-so is out on Friday, you'll have to wait until Monday". If there were sufficient internal coverage so the business availability of five days a week were not affected, great. Otherwise, what happens is the business/agency effectively runs a 4 day week which is a 20% reduction in availability.

Surely you'd just stagger everyone's days off. My boss and I each work 4 days per week, with 3-day weekends. My day off is Fridays, and hers is Mondays - so there's one of us there every day.

This makes sense to me. Do you think if it were to be split up by department where half is gone on Monday and half on Friday? Maybe that could make up for the discrepancy.

The ability to have three days off in a row is amazing and it has made a drastic improvement on my mental health. I went through a huge stage of feeling like my life was being wasted working, this has helped that a lot.
