It seems like instead of learning new workflows and installing a bunch of applications, designing configs and arranging some sort of automation to tell you what to do at every moment in your life, the effort and time would be better spent on learning the mental discipline to remember to do the things you need to do. It's not hard to get into a mental routine of checking a list, or just remembering to do the things you need to do on specific days of the week, and I think overall tracking this type of stuff is better for you to remember internally rather than in some sort of external app.
I think to do lists are good for organizing long, complex lists of tasks that are unfamiliar, and project management software or outlines are good ways to plan longer term efforts that require smaller abstractions to break down, but for things like taking out your trash, or doing your laundry? Those are things that you should be able to remember to do every week as an adult. It might just take some concentration and effort to actively go over your responsibilities each week.

There are plenty of people including me that have a really hard time remembering all that and personally having something telling me what to do every day would be nice because it means l can spend energy trying to remember more important things.

Hello ADHD me and my 200+long list of Outlook to-do items, half started but ultimately discarded to-do lists, forgotten grocery lists on the kitchen counter, and that journal that I really wanted to carry around but ultimately forgot about sitting in a desk drawer with 2 things written on the first page.

Is there any particular reason you think this?

Functions of memory and discipline are like any other skill. The more you use them, the better you get at using them. When you offload things externally, you start losing the skills to do those things yourself. A good example is navigation systems. Before they existed, I could draw a map of how to get to the 20 or so most common places I traveled to. When I started relying on them, I started just following directions, and I had no idea where I actually was. Same goes for over-automating most any other aspects of your life. When you have reminders and alarms for everything you have to do, you're just following directions. You're not actually internalizing the need to do those things.

I think when too much of the animus of your life gets dictated to you rather than coming from within, you start just sort of going through the motions, if that makes sense. There have been periods of my life like that, where I just kind of operate on autopilot, going from instruction to instruction. I think it's ultimately a healthier form of living if you're able to be productive and do the things you want to do based on your internal motivation and mental organization skills. Besides that point, there are periods where those kinds of external tools aren't available. You don't always have a functional smartphone or a computer with you. Being able to function without those things is a skill I highly value.

I could see using something like this if it was a little more automated, like automatically schedule or prioritize tasks (easy enough if you know how) and you are like the author and literally live in the cli for hours every day. I personally spend very little time at my desk and as little time as possible with a terminal open so their are far better options for reminding me what I need to do than this.

I tried using beorg to have Org on my iPhone, but it was simply not good enough. Among other things, Dropbox as a backend meant a lot of version conflicts. I don't think beorg is ready to prime time. So I went back to Remember The Milk for my overall tasks. I only use Org Mode for tasks that I do on the computer. The same is true for taskwarrior. No scheduling tool will be good enough for me unless it has a killer mobile app.

Completely agree. I like the idea of taskwarrior in principal, but the apps that do exist are just not very nice to use. As I spend more time with my phone on me than my laptop, there needs to be a mobile app that a) works, b) isn't garbage to look at, and c) isn't garbage to use. Bonus points if it has a widget so I don't have to open the app to see what's up next. At the moment I'm using Any.do, but notifications seem to be broken on Android 10 :(

What would be the advantage of using this instead of org-mode?

I used both. Org has way more features. And Taskwarrior is meant to managed from the command line. Adjusting stuff is a nightmare without direct access to a text file with a simple syntax.
