Honestly, the biggest issue isn't whether Playboy can reinvent itself to fit in better with the modern world. It's that it's a magazine. Millennials (which includes me) don't buy very many magazines.

I only subscribe to a single magazine (Fangoria) because it's not available in any other form except print. And I'm the only one of my friends who does that.

The only magazines I, as a millenial, purchase are coffee table "books". I'm sure the new Playboy quarterly could serve this purpose admirably, but I don't think I'm quite confident enough to attempt that aesthetic in my apartment. Perhaps that's the sort of customer the new editorial group is looking for.

That sounds like an expensive magazine then. Which just further narrows the amount of people interested.

I found this article after finding out that Playboy had removed the nudity ban from their magazine and are trying to reinvent themselves again. The NYT does a good job here at going through the history of Playboy, which I think is a very interesting company because, as the article states quite well:

Contradiction, though, has always been part of Playboy’s ethos [...]

I'm intersted if this instance of Playboy will remain, because other than the magazine, the brand is actually rather successful.
