Standalone thread as per request by @Adys in the weekly Ukraine mega thread. This is an interesting account of the days right before and the day of the russian invasion of Ukraine.

Seriously, it's a really, really good article. And written in quite a thrilling way, too... for better or worse, I felt taken right back to those couple days. It feels weird how mundane it all...

It feels weird how mundane it all felt right up until that morning. Internally I was freaking out a little bit, but hearing my then-SO being so chill and so certain there would be no attack calmed me down. Looking back, it kinda feels like absolutely everyone wanted to believe there would be no attack, so everyone reassured each other. I figured: "Hey, she's Ukrainian, she knows better"; she figured "Hey, they're the news, they know better"; the news figured "Hey, he's the president, he knows better".

And President Zelenskyy probably figured, "Hey, Putin's not an idiot, he knows better".

      Fuck me.
