    From the article:

The Jefferson County school district disputed Ganahl’s claims and said its dress code prohibits costumes at school. The district — where Columbine High School is located — has been stocking classrooms with small amounts of cat litter since 2017, but as part of “go buckets” that contain emergency supplies in case students are locked in a classroom during a shooting. The buckets also contain candy for diabetic students, a map of the school, flashlights, wet wipes and first aid items.

Cat litter is an excellent spill-cleanup substance that's cheap, easily available, and pre-packaged. I've often used sawdust, but that's less practical if you're not, say, nearby an active woodshop.

I put those two and two together, but it seems like it's not in the blurb I grabbed. Whoops. Thanks for adding it for anyone who didn't find it obvious.

I hate that Minnesota has gotten caught up in all this. Scott Jensen is such a useless hack.

The stupidity of your average Republican continues to astound me. You could put 10 of them in a room with a 3rd grade math test and an hour later they wouldn't be able to finish it.

Your assumption is that they've been tricked by something that's obviously false. Some of them have, but the reality is that most of the people repeating the claim simply do not care whether it's true or false. It's a modified gish gallop, where instead of dumping a lot of references into an argument you dump something that's obviously untrue. And now the opponents are spending time bike-shedding about this obvious absurdity, and not on the core issue: trans children exist, and they deserve compassion and access to treatment.

Some people hate trans people, and they do not want trans people to exist, and they do not want any trans people, especially children, to access healthcare. So they lie in order to remove any rights trans people have.

To be fair, AFAIK Common Core math methodology is still taught in many US K-12 classes, and that shit even confuses the hell out of me! (Not really, but IMO it is a bit unorthodox and counterintuitive, at least to those of us taught using the oldschool, "just memorize all this shit", methodology) ;)

Oh, in case it wasn't clear by my winky face, I fully agree with you. The oldschool way was horrible, and I am not shitting on Common Core at all. It provides a much more thorough understanding of the underlying mechanics behind the math, instead of just having the kids memorize the result tables. But I can also see how Common Core might potentially be confusing for some older people who were taught the oldschool way, especially if they're not particularly mathematically inclined, is all.
