The attack coincided with a drag show.

For anyone unfamiliar (which I assume is most Tilderinos), Moore county is quite rural, populated with very wealthy, mostly conservative retirees, people looking to get away from very military dominated Fayetteville next door, and the now low-employment descendentants of ag and some factory work. If you're not among those wealthy folks, it's not an awesome place to live. That said, there's some gentrification happening, and they have a gay bar that was having a drag show.

Publicly identified as a perpetrator. It's unlikely that they'll make public statement until the shooter and anyone who gave them assistance has been apprehended.

A fair nit-pick, but I will anecdotally add that I've seen a billboard in NC from the FBI asking for information (and offering reward money), which (at least to me) suggests the FBI is still...

While that's technically accurate, you don't have to be too savvy to get away with this crime. And if you're savvy enough to target the radiators, you're probably savvy enough to take the proper precautions. Also, as I mentioned, there's a heavy military influence in this area, and I'm sure our military forces train folks in these kind of operations.

I reckon this will prompt surveillance equipment to be installed at some of these substations. Although surveillance alone is insufficient, they still haven't caught any perpetrator of the Georgia Guidestones debacle.

I think that the guidestones destruction is a poor comparison to make, as many more people have a financial interest in the power infrastructure. It's possible that the attackers didn't use their own vehicles or guns, didn't bring anything that connected to the internet, and cleaned up after themselves perfectly, but that's not guaranteed. Most of our day to day privacy is due to the indifference of state level actors, not because we aren't leaving tracks.

Gunfire damages North Carolina substation, no outage caused (AP)

A North Carolina utility said an electricity substation was damaged by gunfire early Tuesday but that it caused no power outages.

EnergyUnited said in a news release that an alarm early Tuesday alerted it to an equipment problem at the substation in Randolph County, northeast of Charlotte. It said crews found damage to the substation from an apparent gunshot and that law enforcement had been notified.

Investigators believe the attack occurred around 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was notified, and the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force responded to conduct a parallel investigation, the release said.
