That last paragraph really got me. I had heard about Alex Jones and how popular he is becoming now, but I never really took in the bigger picture. People want to be lied to. I always thought...

Arguments that participate, in that, in a somber metaphor for a time in which journalists are mocked as liars and threatened as the enemies of the people, and in which expertise is dismissed as elitism, and in which truth has been allowed to be treated not as the only thing that matters, but rather as a choice—an option that is often, being all fact and no heart, an imposition.

I always thought politics was something where this thinking wouldn't have surfaced. Just like Jones, Trump really saw a business opportunity in the mental state of the American people.

I don't know how to reach these people, or even if it is worth the effort to do so

If you share a democratic country with them the attempt seems worthwhile if only so you don't have to live under their politicians. No clue as to means though and perhaps it's better to just get all the sane non-voters to turn up.
