    War (and let's not pretend it's just "defense") strategy has to contemplate worst possible scenarios.

    Even so, it's chilling that the U.S. military community is actually contemplating a nationalistic economic re-alignment to disentangle the country from global supply chains in support of war capacity.

    Economic interdependencies, like the "frenemy" status of the U.S. and China, have helped stabilize international relations and prevent the Great Power wars that plagued most of the 20th Century.
