According to Forrester's Consumer Energy Index and Retail Pulse survey released in December 2021, 54% of U.S. adults who use a streaming service said they prefer to watch movie premieres on streaming.

Turns out for a metric ton of movies, it's way nicer being in your own home and able to pause. I love going to the movies, but premieres at home mean I don't have to wait a year if I can't get a sitter.

Don't worry, Netflix will buy AMC and Disney will buy Regal and theatrical releases will march forward.

I actually believe that the inability to pause is an essential feature of the classic movie experience and I will pay partly for it. The major issue that made me stop going to the movies as much years ago is that I can't stand people talking loudly or using smartphones in the movie theater (sometimes for phone calls). At some point I grew tired of getting into fights.

My kids don't comprehend a world where they can't pick what they want to watch, can't pause it on a whim, and might never get to see it again if they miss it.

Of all the first world things to be like "back in my day"

It is a consequence of the fact that the movie happens regardless of your will, it imposes a kind of contemplation for which your immediate wants are not relevant. The movie demands to be seen, and it will feed your senses however it pleases. You have no control. Your only option is surrendering to the experience. There's something magical about that.

Most movies are not really 3 hours :P

And I don't know how old are your kids, but I don't think young kids were ever able to sit for 90 minutes of... Anything. In any generation. Ever :P
