But, they’ve also given us Andor (at least, they’re listed as the production company on Wikipedia), which is certainly the best property in the Disney Star Wars canon, and probably the best Star Wars TV/movie since the original trilogy.
So clearly, the Force can still be brought out by the proper director / vision / cast. Now, whether Disney can figure out how to make that happen at the box office is another question…
I haven't watched Andor yet - it's on my list - but I agree that what it takes is more than just brand recognition. It takes a team of talented storytellers to bring a thing to life, and Star Wars already has a huge and interconnected universe of lore to pull from. It takes time to make something that will satisfy both the know-all lore fans and be not too steep of an on-ramp for more casual or newer fans.
But also, people like me are just fatigued of the same brands being trotted out all the time. I want new and interesting stories, new people, new places, and told in a new way. A good example, I'm sick to death of Marvel movies and have been for years, but I will watch the Spiderverse movie that just came out because it was interesting and unique, they're using animation in a neat way, and I'm here for it! Star Wars will need a similar innovation to freshen up a bit.
I can’t recommend Andor enough. I agree with @arghdos on the show being one of the best in the series in a long while. Love me some Dark Star Wars and really getting into the grit & grim of what the expanded universe has written so much about.
Marvel is a great example of film fatigue and really just being beaten to death at the box office. Imo, Marvel should have started pumping out more comics, books, etc. to supplement and expand upon the films vice churning them out at a breakneck pace. It is so challenging to keep up and easy to burn out with how frequently they release films. I despise how they all work together and if you don’t watch the others prior in the series, then you often find yourself as the viewer lost or missing out on storyline.
It is an unfortunate reality of big business making the most of their IP. I too wish something new and exciting were to come out. As a bookworm, I wish many of those stories and lore make it to the big screen, alas, I am left with rehashed shows of previous generations or continuations of the same old. Let’s hope companies start getting back into gear with innovation.
Andor is exceptionally good. It’s not only great on its own, but meaningfully adds to Star Wars lore too. It’s far and away the best thing Disney’s done with Star Wars. Sad that it’s only getting two seasons, but very much looking forward to S2.
The Mandalorian and Rogue One are also both good, but other than those I could forget about basically everything else.
Id add that the Siege of Manadalore arc from The Clone Wars S7 is up there on that list too as some of the best stuff Disney has done.
I personally think they need to move away from the current 'age', for lack of a better word. Go some decades or even centuries into the past or future. Enough with everything being centered around the Skywalker saga or Palpatine etc.
Exactly. But the problem with that is the same problem Paramount has with Star Trek. They think they're choosing safe by orbiting their shows around familiar time periods and characters
Andor and Rogue One. The best in my opinion. I think it's time they move on from the jedis. Stories of normal people are more relatable to me. Watching the jedis and the sith power struggle using their abilities is fantastic, i know, but they can also be a great background of a more human story. It is okay for the jedis to not be the focus of a story.
the only thing the mouse will learn from this is to do a shotgun spread of as much content as possible to see what sticks
hell, thats not even a prediction, they're already doing it
George sold Disney the name but not the magic
