Adapting War of the Worlds as a screenlife film is still a bizarre choice to me. Maybe the concept could have worked if it wasn't meant to adapt one of the most iconic alien stories of all time, or even just had hints it's in the same "universe" in modern times... But it automatically gains a lot more critique given it's an adaptation.
Also, this made me read the Wikipedia summary, and... Wow. Just, wow. Sooooo many bad cliches and tropes, they managed to spin it into a family drama. Ending is totally changed. I would have never pegged it as War of the Worlds if it wasn't for the title.
Spoiler warning in case anyone wants to actually watch it for some reason
Also, WHY THE HECK DID THEY MAKE A VILLAINOUS HUMAN!?!? The aliens are ALREADY antagonists!! We don't need to add some human enemy to every single film!!! Please, Hollywood, give us ONE FILM about people actually UNITING without any dumb betrayals!!

It's one of those movies where I watched someone do a comedic synopsis of it and I felt like that was a better experience than having actually watched the movie could ever be. And I like bad movies. MST3K's offerings, The Room, Troll 2, etc. love 'em all. But from what I could tell, War of the Worlds just sounds boring, cheap, and lazy. Almost like they were trying to make a "so bad it's good" movie.
There was one 20 years ago with Tom Cruise and young Dakota Fanning, directed by Spielberg, that at least made an effort. Reception was mildly positive. I remember hating the ending, which I think...

I remember hating the ending, which I think just doesn't translate well to film (however I confess I haven't read the story, and I may have hated it there too).
If you aren't already familiar, Honest Trailers is usually excellent for a deep draught of snark, and they really went to town on War of the Worlds: https://youtu.be/SLahR0K8Fss?si=3LGDuK3LQigNpc7c

yeah, they want me to unblock some stuff. No matter what I do, I can't get around that on my phone. Its totally clean on my normal comp, though. No ads, paywalls, etc.. but everything is like that...
I think its something in NextDNS for iOS. I run Diversion on my router with a shitload of stuff blocked -- but I get the same page on either. Its the first time I've seen that. its gonna be a...

its gonna be a tough life without the Hollywood Reporter on mobile... not sure how I'll survive the winter. :)
I'm honestly kind of surprised to see Snow White on the same level as War of the Worlds. Aren't the razzies supposed to be for bad movies? Snow White wasn't really bad, it was just boring (which,...

My girlfriend was in a car accident the day she saw it (totalled car, broken wrist) and said this gem after: Snow White was still worse. I haven't bothered to watch it after that lol.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Razzies overall, but I do think Snow White was that bad. Even down to the production design and costuming, which looked cheap especially for a 200M+ production.

What's really bad about the costume design is that many of the theme park Snow White actresses look better... That hairstyle just does NOT look good on Rachel Zegler in any of the photos or shots...

what an unnecessarily aggressive paywall. https://archive.is/Amr37
i didn’t even know Section 31 came out… or i completely forgot. I hope they win.

That's interesting. I'm using the DuckDuckGo browser on Android and I don't get a paywall. The ads are also blocked.
Also good with mobile Firefox and ublock. You maybe have more aggressive settings?

Weird. I don't get that on mobile when visiting the site. Are you actually running an ad or script blocker on your phone's browser?
yeah, NextDNS on iOS is the culprit. This is the first time seeing this. Normally I get a pop up like that with a 'continue...'
