p.s. Looks like release isn't scheduled til June, and I imagine it probably won't be available to watch in English until the DVD release, unless it gets picked up by Netflix or something... but I added it to my watchlist anyways and look forward to watching it. Thanks for sharing this intuxikated.

If anybody wants to know more about what happened check out this this post on reddit. Subtitles on the trailer is pretty accurate if anybody is concerned.

This looks decent and not at all like my impression of what a stereotypical Bollywood movie would look like. May I ask what's the general quality of thrillers produced in India and how this one...

This is not Bollywood this is mollywood. Bollywood is hindi based film industry which is spoken mostly in north indian states. Our states are formed based on linguistic differences so in south india neighboring states speak different languages. So in kerala (where this movie is based on) people speak Malayalam so our film industry is called mollywood.

I got a little side tracked here, sorry. To answer your question, I don't really watch Bollywood movie that often so I don't know what your perception is when it comes indian movies. But, I tell you what.. mollywood makes really good thrillers (unfortunately highest grossing ones are not up to the mark in my opinion). If you are interested in mollywood thrillers checkout Angamaly diaries it is a gangster movie which I think captured the real essence of our culture.

Technically this isn't a Bollywood movie since it's not in Hindi... it's a Mollywood movie since it's in Malayalam. But that aside, IMO Indian and SE Asian cinema has come a long way over the last decade. Gone are the days where the only movies coming out of the region are silly, over-the-top, romantic musicals and action or martial arts films. (p.s. I'm not disparaging those genres though, since I still love them... e.g. Baahubali/Baahubali 2 was great!)

One of the great things about being Canadian is our huge Indian and SE Asian communities here, and as a result of that our Netflix is jam packed with said content. I am not an expert by any means (esp. since I don't speak any of the languages), but I do watch a fair bit of foreign films on netflix, so if you want recommendations for good "serious" Indian/SE Asian films, I can toss some your way. E.g. One I watched recently that was quite good was a Tamil film called Sometimes.

Gangs of Wasseypur - Perhaps my favourite bollywood movie. It's a gangster movie spanning three generations.

There are more but I don't watch bollywood movies regularly and these are the only ones I remember.

Ooh, thanks. I haven't seen any of those, and some of the trailers have definitely piqued my interest.
