I just finished watching Uncut Gems, and I was looking for discussion here, and found this. Great article; I enjoyed the contextualization from Jewish Currents quite a bit, and it helped me understand why this slog of a movie has been so popular.

If I had to sum the movie up, I would say this: it had a phenomenal cast with great acting. Every single person did a good job with their character. Every scene made sense and was important within the context of the movie. Every scene itself was well done, well acted, well directed. When everything was put together and I consider the sum of all these fantastic parts... I didn't enjoy the film. It was not a film that was built to be enjoyed, but endured.

If you're looking for an experience like that, then this is definitely that sort of a movie; it's not really for me.

It was as far from a slog as it could be for me. I agree with you on all other points - it was an amazing production. It has been a long time since a movie left me feeling so much emotion - especially anxiety.

This wasn't sit back and enjoy movie. I also felt anxious and uncomfortable. I had to work to enjoy the things that I would typically automatically enjoy about a movie.

I didn't mean that it was boring or otherwise bad in that way. I certainly didn't enjoy it much, though.

I see what you mean. I assumed by slog you meant 'not engaged.' I understand not enjoying it - it does make you very anxious.
