    It's directed by Andy Serkis (he also plays Baloo), and has apparently been a passion project of his for a while. Production started around the same time as Disney's Jungle Book, but they got it out a while faster. This one's supposed to be a lot darker since it follows the original book.

      I was so confused with this trailer... I assumed it was the sequel and was like "wait.. what? Mowgli got captured after the first movie? How is Shere Khan still alive? WHAT IS HAPPENING!!!" Until...

      Until I read your comment, realized this is a WB movie and now I feel dumb. :(

      Maybe Serkis directing it explains why our Mowgli origin story seems basically the same as Gollum's.

    I enjoyed the Disney one for what it was worth. I'm not going to claim is was "high cinema" or anything, but it was a fine update to an old-ass movie. I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I love Andy Serkis' work so I might check it out simply to support him, but at the same time I'm really not interested in seeing another Jungle Book movie. I'm gonna have to wait for reviews.

    So far this looks better than Disney's 2016 version, which for some bizarre reason people liked. Suffice it to say I didn't.

    My favorite live action adaptation of the jungle book is the one by Zoltan Korda in 1942. It's probably just my nostalgia showing, but it has a soft place in my heart. The whole film is in the public domain now and you can watch it on the wikipedia page.
