Not sure whether it'll come out this year, but I'm really looking forward to this! The source material is very difficult to adapt, but if someone can deliver, it is Denis Villeneuve.

Just looking at the images from the article it looks like it's going to be awesome! It sounds like the director is actually a fan of the books, which I think is needed to properly adapt this amazing subtle and complex story.

I have no emotional attachment to Dune but Denis Villeneuve directing this makes it an instant-watch for me. I was so damn impressed with him doing a Blade Runner sequel, of all things, and nailing it. It's a perfect (if late) sequel. It's to the original Blade Runner what Mad Max: Fury Road was for the Mad Max franchise, only that the latter had the excuse of actually having George Miller back while Ridley Scott was busy making 6/10 trash. Oh, and Arrival was excellent sci-fi, too!
I'm actually looking forward to this movie now. I know lots of talented people tried and failed but if anyone can pull off something "unfilmable", it's Villeneuve.
Oh man, this makes me feel so good about this movie. Trying to condense all of the story lines into a single movie would have felt so rushed, even if you set the film at a 3 hour run time. I am...
Villeneuve intends to create a Dune that has so far only existed in the imagination of readers. The key, he says, was to break the sprawling narrative in half. When Dune hits theaters on December 18, it will only be half the novel, with Warner Bros. agreeing to tell the story in two films, similar to the studio’s approach with Stephen King’s It and It Chapter Two. “I would not agree to make this adaptation of the book with one single movie,” says Villeneuve. “The world is too complex. It’s a world that takes its power in details.”
