Big day today in terms of awards. The Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards announced their nominees. The Golden Globes won’t be broadcasted this year as they were cancelled by NBC after a litany of controversies. So the Critics Choice will be airing on the first Sunday of the 2022 (as was tradition for the Golden Globes).
Despite what the name implies, the Critics Choice Association does not nominate high brow films. In fact many of the members vote as a way of predicting the Oscars. Which is why you get nominations like Don’t Look Up in Picture despite being Rotten on RottenTomatoes, and Being the Ricardos in Screenplay despite mixed reviews. It’s also why you don’t get nominations for movies like The Worst Person in the World which have received universal praise amongst critics and has topped many “Best of 2021” lists.
