In anticipation of seeing Robert Finley live last night, I've been listening to his album Sharecropper's Son this week. And it's been impossible to pass up listening to Delta Kream from The Black Keys and I Be Trying from Cedric Burnside. I came across The Land Where the Blues Began by Alan Lomax in a bookstore and picked it up, partly for the accompanying remastered recordings, but also out of curiosity to read his storytelling accounts. It's an interesting read, but probably not all factual, and he's certainly a complicated historical figure, but it's impossible to remove him from the preservation of the American South.
