It's been an interesting week for me.

I went from listening to a handful of King Crimson albums in the car (In the Court of the Crimson King, Red and Lark's Tongues in Aspic) to Mastodon again, which led me to practicing some stuff I'd learned on guitar (I'm re-learning Iron Tusk), and figured I'd try to work out the opening riff to Curl of the Burl.

I started looking for other stuff to work on, especially since I dropped some new pickups in my Telecaster, and thought I'd give Black Label a shot, as it blew me away back in the day. It was surprisingly simple, but the song turned out to be a game of endurance I can't win at this thrashy breakdown at 1:12.

I'd tried listening to Lamb of God a few years ago and never got into them. Somehow picking this song apart got me to listen to three of their albums today while working (New American Gospel, As the Palaces Burn, and Ashes of the Wake), and they're going into my normal rotation for sure. I'm surprised at how grounded the music seems to be, while still having the intensity and musicality I typically like out more aggressive metal.

About King Crimson...One of my friends told me yesterday that when he wants to listen to new music he goes back in time rather than searching for contemporary music and he mentioned King Crimson....

About King Crimson...One of my friends told me yesterday that when he wants to listen to new music he goes back in time rather than searching for contemporary music and he mentioned King Crimson. I just tried it again now and it's a bit too weird/boring to me. The only LOG song I really care about is 512 but maybe I should look into it more. I'm in a more of melodic death/black metal kind of mood these days though.
