His work on The Revenant was absolutely brilliant. In my mind this is what early america sounded like. When I would read books from my Early American Literature class in college, like Last of the Mohicans, I would read listening to this score.
This is sad; I didn't even know that Ryuichi Sakamoto had died!
In any case, this is a really good read. There aren't many people in the western world who are familiar with Sakamoto or YMO, and it's such a shame because it's like they have been robbed of something incredible without them ever knowing they had it in the first place.
