This popped up on my last.fm home page, and the art looked intriguing so I clicked. Didn't expect some truly competent black/death metal. The vocals on this are massive, and the production is cavernous. Very glad I clicked, FFO: Teitanblood, Aberration

    Sunn O))) - Oracle
Sunn O))) are masters of crafting these dark soundscapes that I just love to get lost in. Was in the mood for some of that, so I've been playing this album over and over again. It makes me focus.

    Aesop Rock - Send Help
Such a fun track, love the lyrics. That and the great beat just has me coming back.

    Geordie Greep - The Magician
This week I had a random yearning to listen to this track again. Not sure why, but it's leaving a much greater impression on me now than when I first listened to it. The gradual build of the track is just beautiful, and Greep's oddball lyrics and grandiose delivery adds to the charm. Don't get me wrong though, some of the lyrics are quite poignant and impactful. I absolutely love the lull about 4 minutes in and the verse that follows.

Some friends of mine went to an Old Crow Medicine Show concert on Friday and were telling me about it. I'd never heard of the band so they (understandably) were trying to gauge my tolerance for country music.

Now I have a complicated relationship with country music. I love old folk country. I love outlaw country. And I have a soft spot for some 90s pop country that I grew up hearing. But I completely detest modern "radio" country. It's complete garbage to my ears and I want nothing to do with it. But that old stuff? My god I love it.

So anyway, my friend put together a playlist from what she could remember of the concert's set and when I drove home I let it play. Maybe it was the cool spring night air, maybe it was driving down quiet rural roads between farms, heck maybe it was just the music itself. But it all just felt so right. By the time I got home I'd decided on a few favorites that have been stuck in my head since:

My favorite line from Humdinger being "If you're not a right winger, then we'll all have a humdinger"
