New (to me!)
Bad//Dreems
Found this lot from a shoutout on a short by another musician.
To my ears they're a slightly more punky edgy version of The Levellers, a lot of their vocal style reminds me strongly of them. I'm enjoying them a lot.
I don't exactly know how I ended up finding these guys, but I'm three albums deep into Sunn O)))'s "White1". Not "Suno", like the artificial intelligence garbage, but the band endorsed by the speaker brand. They're...quite different from what I usually listen to, but for a drone metal band, it scratches a certain itch that I didn't know I had, exclusively listening to them while I'm doing my soul crushing library work, so the locale fits my mood!
You need to experience their live show. Yes I said experience like some kinda hipster nerd but honestly it is the only way to fully appreciate their sound.
There's been a lot , but I'll talk about the new additions since last I posted here
Arca (self titled album) has been great, revisiting albums from my past is always a great experience, especially (re)discovering songs and finding new favourites (Piel [Skin] and Sin Rumbo [Aimless] notably
I also re-watched Pride & Prejudice recently with some friends (one had never seen so we made a night out of it) — and I forgot how amazing the score is for that film, while imperfect relative to the book the cinematography and music is PEAK and you really feel the characters.
Lastly EUSEXUA afterglow - FKA Twigs has been coming and going in my listening past few months, I feel like it compliments the more experimental Arca that has been heavily in my rotation, as well as the San James in a way (on the more indie pop end).
Honourable mention: Ever since finishing Heated Rivalry on Crave I have really gotten into Wolf Parade, specifically I'll Believe in Everything is used in the series to great effect :)
There's this steampunk musical called The Dolls of New Albion, and I found out there's various renditions of it on YouTube, so I perused those a bit. The proper studio recording is the best version sound-wise, but some of those renditions on YouTube have surprisingly great prop design and attention to detail. I've mostly just kept coming back to the opening track, New Albion 1.
I discovered Fief, and more specifically the album II with the song Dawnlight Warms the Castle Stone. It's cozy dungeon synth ambiance music.
Another great one I discovered was artist: Gryphon, album: Red Queen to Gryphon Three, song: Second Spasm. It's a conceptual album about an encounter between two chess players, told purely through music.
Honorable mention to Bean Fields by Penguin Cafe Orchestra. In particular, I'll shout out the version from the album Signs of Life because it has one of the greatest album covers I've ever seen. It has a penguin-headed monkey riding a bicycle with a gun out. Bean Fields is one of those songs that you should be able to listen for like 10 seconds and tell immediately if you love or hate it.
Revisited British pop duo The Pipettes, specifically their sci-fi-trope-themed LP Earth vs. the Pipettes.
Been in a particular mood and these are the types of things that have fit it

Somehow missed that fleshwater has a new record from September too. I love this band and no idea how it didn't hit my radar

A friend not long ago recommended Monolord (Doom Metal) to me and I absolutely love their vibe and discography. I think they’re the first band whose entire discography I added to my library of music.
Also into Orbit Culture (Swedish metal band).
