What have you been listening to this week? You don't need to do a 6000 word review if you don't want to, but please write something! If you've just picked up some music, please update on that as well, we'd love to see your hauls :)
Feel free to give recs or discuss anything about each others' listening habits.

Been listening to mainly jazz fusion this week, specifically from Masato Honda, a member of T-Square and was a part of The Seatbelts for the Cowboy Bepop soundtrack. Also snuck in some old rock from my childhood which brought some nostalgia back.
Highlights:
Still Frame - Trapt (2003): I know this song from Project Gotham Racing 2 on the original Xbox. I didn't understand the lyrics as a kid but listening to it now in my 20s, I relate to a lot of the emotions in the song. Great track to race on the streets with.
Hokago Wa Nichiyobi (放課後は日曜日) - Masato Honda (2000): I honestly heard this and thought it was from Mario Kart and didn't realize it was something entirely different until I'd checked my phone. I knew Mario Kart incorporated a lot of jazz fusion over the years but it didn't hit me until I heard this.
Oh man, Trapt was the first concert I ever bought tickets to, back at Atlanta's old (now demolished) Coca Cola Roxy, back in 2004 or 2005? Banger of a show. I loved that album back in the day. I'll still go back to it once a year or so, but none of the stuff they released since has really clicked for me. I've also heard, but haven't researched to verify, that the band has turned in to hardcore ass hats over the last decade.
That's funny, I first heard Trapt in a different videogame, MX Unleashed on the PS2. The song was Headstrong rather than Still Frame; wasn't really a fan though.
Love Headstrong too! I associate Trapt with Still Frame much more though haha. I was curious when writing the post what happened to them and seems like they were complaining about cancel culture not too long ago unfortunately
Yeah... they uh... have a somewhat notorious (I know about their behavior even as someone that isn't a fan because it somehow reached me regardless) history of saying awful things on social media and then being excessively combative about it with anyone that responds, including fans. From homophobic comments to stuff about "institutional racism not existing", insulting civil rights leaders, support of the far-right, etc... so complaining about cancel culture seems to be the M.O. for people that behave like this and rightfully get called out on it
I finally found a song that I have been searching for the past few weeks. It's called The Lamp Is Low.
I'm preparing for a bunch of concerts I have coming up, so have been listening to the following:
I was listening to The Beastiary by Castle Rat while driving around a bit over a week ago and it's the first album in a while to make me feel randomly euphoric, then again as I grabbed a guitar and started working out some of their riffs. It was also kind of funny to listen to it on the way to the Renaissance faire this weekend, until it basically took three times through the album to actually get into the place. Their first album is pretty good, but this is their second and is so much better, at least in the mix, and really gives me hope for their direction and trajectory.
Powerman 5000: I started with Tonight the stars revolt! (link to playlist) and it's solid, and a little eclectic.
Dorian Electra - Hips Don't Lie - This hyperpop Shakira cover really hypes me up! Also love their cover of Feel Good Inc.
Saint Agnes - Good Boy - Rebellious rock song, magnetic visuals
Post-punk/punk/oi band Home Front (recent KEXP performance btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThcSsr8KLjU). Their last two albums are two of my favorite albums
American Football - LP4 new American Football release! always excited for new stuff from Kinsella and co
Famyne - II: The Ground Below - this heavily AIC-inspired grunge-doom
Haruspex Chants - Demo MMXXVI - this death/doom demo that kicks ass
Art School Girlfriend - Lean In - indie pop / electronic, currently my non-metal album of the year so far, I think
Morbid Angel - Domination
Some of Home Front's sources of inspiration.
British Punk / Oi that incorporated Post-Punk/New Wave later on:
Angelic Upstarts - Reason Why https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKwFbVZ9cWU
Blitz - Second Empire Justice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pxFwP-8vdI

An old favourite of mine that sadly only put out one album, "The Crash of '47". It's a fantastic one mind you. If I could only listen to one album for the rest of my life it would be that. I doubt they'll ever put anything out again, since the first one was released over 20 years ago since the first one; and a couple of the band members have sadly passed too.

I recently just starting listing to them, and I really do enjoy their music. However, It's definitely not for everyone. It's like a somewhat weirder version of Skinny Puppy that would be easier to dance to; which makes sense considering it was created by Nivek Ogre and Mark Walk. Anyway the album "Devils In My Details" is what I'd consider to be their best album, even if the mixing on some of the songs is pretty rough. If you like Industrial music give ohGr a shot.
Rediscovered a favorite album of mine from 2015, Men Amongst Mountains, by The Revivalists. I love the groove and sound, I find it to be particularly enjoyable as an album to put on while I'm cooking. Lots of good songs on the album, but I'd pick out Stand Up as my current favorite.
Karmanjaka just put out a new album. Honestly best way I can think to describe it is beautiful. Sick, low tuned guitar riffs, vocalist has an incredible voice, kinda thall/djenty but with no screaming, overall vibey. Personal standouts are Sun, Astray and Diamond Train.
