I was playing the remake of Tony Hawk's Proskater 3/4 and while playing I discovered "Hollywood Baby" by 100 gecs. It's upbeat, it's pop-punk, it's sloppy, it's weird, it's perfect. And I love it because the entire reason I'm into that kind of music is because I spent so much time as a kid and teen playing THPS1-4 and THUG1-2. I got into so much pop punk, rock, and hiphop because of those games and I love that here we are 20+ years later and the game's still delivering new music to my ears.
THPS was also a huge influence on my music tastes, along with many other games of that era like MTV Skateboarding ft. Andy Macdonald, Dave Mirra Pro BMX, Matt Hoffman Pro BMX and Twisted Metal.
I played the THPS 3+4 remake on launch and like many other reviewers I thought it was awful. The pace was way off. Do you know if they changed that or does it just not bother you?
I got bored with it about an hour into it, whereas I played the hell out of the 1+2 remake. So I’d say not much has changed. 4 lost its untimed open levels and the voices NPCs are mostly gone. Basically everything that gave 4 its Charm is gone unfortunately :(
I'm not quite sure how to feel about this yet, but I'm slowly becoming a Ween fan.
I've long understood that there's more than just weird voices and abstract rock, and that there's a reason why they're so popular. As a Pavement fan, I can appreciate a band that might take a minute to fully appreciate. Up until very recently, I had only dipped a toe into the Ween catalog - a little Ocean Man here, a little Pork Roll Egg and Cheese there - but now I'm starting to make my way over to the deep end. I've got 12 Golden Country Greats and White Pepper on repeat. I'm walking around the house saying things like "Hi, I'm fuckin Eddie Dingle," and "Push the little daises and make em come up" in their respective voices, and I've got Boys Club and Voodoo Lady stuck in my head 24/7. I fear that it's only a matter of time before my aux privileges are permanently revoked for playing some weird bullshit on someone else's stereo.
Anyway, if anyone has a deep cut recommendation, I'm all ears.
Where most people would typically say something like “pound sand” or “kick rocks”, I always say “piss up a rope”.
I was re-listening to the prog rock band Emerson, Lake and Palmer. They were famous in 70s for their extravaganza stage shows and as is common in prog, really long songs. However, I came out with a better appreciation of their albums this time. From the silken self titled debut to the 20 minute title track on Tarkus (which is a prototypical masterpiece from the genre); the band was at it's zenith (though they will come to ground later).
Ash Ra Tempel - Friendship : They were a band from West Germany whose glory days were far behind them. This is a reunion album from 2000 but it is overlong and exceptionally boring. Any of their 70s output far exceeds this.
Tricky released his new album today, Different When It's Silent, and I don't have strong feelings about it. I'd still consider him my favorite artist but I don't really connect with much of his more recent work, especially when it's first released. Sometimes I'll go back to albums that I didn't particularly love and end up really loving them, like Fall to Pieces (2020). Maybe this one will be like that but right now I find it a bit boring.
The Band Feel. Classic rock style from an up and coming band. They even look the part if you watch any of their videos.
in metal, which is mostly what i rip while im bicycling, i checked out revocation's latest album, new gods, new masters. it's alright, and definitely has its moments. i rediscovered demon king, and death knell has been in rotation a ton
for classical, which i do when im winding down at night, it's mostly been cante ostinato; but i recently discovered park jiha, by whom i really enjoyed all living things.
otherwise, i have been slamming lots of punk bands: zodiak, zeal's illusion of peace, dropdead's 1993 album, and anything by gouge away
whenever thats not going, im usually listening to modest by default
