I rediscovered soundcloud and have been generally listening to their top 50. I haven't as engaged in music as I would like since college. Soundcloud has changed in terms of what was on their platform.

How has Soundcloud been doing? Last time I remember hearing that they were going out of business. Haven't heard much about it since.

Since then... I can't remember hearing any significant news at all. Twitter considers the $70M that they invested (in 2016) a complete loss, so I can't imagine that things are looking very promising overall.

If you're looking for a good underground hiphop/rap artist, check out Croosh. He's got a wide range of tracks. I like "OK" and "Chronicle".

I've been going back through and relistening to Godspeed You! Black Emperor's catalog that I've already heard and getting around to the albums that I hadn't listened to before. I've done all of them except for Lift Your Skinny Fists, which I'm gonna finish off tomorrow. Some of my thoughts:

Slow Riot for New Zerø Kanada - This used to be my definitive favorite Godspeed album but it's been becoming kind of hazy in my stance on it. I like it a lot still, but I think I've capped out my enjoyment from Moya, while my enjoyment of BBF3 continually grows at a slow pace. Not sure where my opinion on this will end up in the future.

Yanqui U.X.O. - My favorite Godspeed release, slightly ahead of F♯A♯∞'s CD version. I think it's probably the only release that Godspeed managed to get out something that blows me away that doesn't have field recordings, like F# and Slow Riot.

F♯A♯∞ vinyl - This is great, albeit paced a bit strangely compared to the more popular CD version. Has a slightly humorous folky piece tagged on after the end of the dead flag blues's outro.

'Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress' - This could have been a decent album, but the inclusion of the drone pieces just absolutely kills the momentum built up. I found it very distracting and it really took me out of the experience.

"Luciferian Towers" - This start out with the worst track and does nothing but get better as the album goes. Unfortunately, the mixing on this in general feels a bit muddy and it doesn't really do it as much of a favor in my opinion. I'd still place it as a good-great album as a whole.

I've been split between two things, one is a spotify playlist a friend shared with me a while back. Just the other day she messaged saying she updated it with more current things on her pallet so I've been pinching some of the bangers from that.

But also I've recently gotten back into my old youtube playlist. It's this indie chill vibe sorta playlist. I found a few yt channels that would aggregate songs from bandcamp and whatnot so it's been a good way to find new stuff. Over time I ended up with a playlist of a tonne of different styles, but all the same moody feeling. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTJDQjWkkgciFb6EA-lKyV-8hzfZAgn7R

Also, I've been playing a bit of minecraft recently and I keep hearing "taiga" on voice chat and can't help but keep getting lyrics of this charming song stuck in my head https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSyGnEDM_Ik

I've been listening to At war with the mystics by the flaming lips. I just discovered them, and I'm really enjoying their style of music.

I've been on a math-rock and instrumental metal kick for a while now, so this week I'm listening to things like:

Delta Sleep is a great math-rockish band with an album released in april that I'm in love with, Ghost City.

Allure Of Stellar is older but Azimuths is still an album I listen weekly too.

Covet is just released a new album and I'm digging the vibe as always. Here's a link to Effloresce

And I mixed that with Sithu Aye, Polyphia and Chon. I'll probably add some Minus the Bear tonight as well ^^

I listen to a fair amount of music around these styles but I'm not sure how much I'd be able to recommend that you don't already know about. I definitely suggest checking out Owane if you don't already know them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbk4BZMeYNY

Hmm, well I'm relatively new as well, and up to this point I haven't really been paying attention to what artists produce what type of lofi.

Pretty much, I associate "ambient" lofi with the most popular YouTube stream, vibe with Rook1e and depressing with Vague003.

Really the best way to get into it is to listen to live streams first, and to record what tracks you like the most. Afterwards you can start looking through the artists and building your opinion

Also, I can't link cuz I'm on mobile, but there are a few songs that I've liked myself. I could share them if you want?

I've definitely been lacking hip hop this year, so could someone suggest something that I should really listen to that's dropped in the last couple of weeks (other than Eminems new album)?
