I loved Kraftwerk! They definitely shaped my music-listening habits as a kid and my music-creation habits as a teen and adult. He will be missed.

You'll often find musician's obituaries using terms like pioneer or saying how they changed modern music, but I think with Kraftwerk it's absolutely appropriate. They may not have invented everything they used, but they were certainly accomplished musicians who utilised and developed so many diverse elements aesthetics, design, fonts, clothing, performance and of course electronics.

I remember someone posting about Kraftwerk on slsk forums (back in the day) saying she felt strange about how warm and emotional their music was given they used electronics and I think this is part of their heritage - it's not just what you use, it's how you use it. Music transcends the tools and they were absolutely musicians with a capital M.

BBC documentary on Kraftwerk lays out their influence on the whole music industry.
