I think we should do more than link-dropping. Yes, it's technically an aggregation site, but if it's just "send a link!" you've got sort of the general Reddit problem, but with less engagement. I'd think a link with maybe a comment about it talking about why you like it, what's cool about it ranging from the musically technical to just the emotional and personal would be a good way to get a discussion going, and maybe not have as many dead threads that are just YouTube links.

Bear in mind, my actual content contribution to this site is nil, because I don't think in terms of "hey this'll be nice to share!" and search stuff out. I also don't feel that most the stuff I listen to is of general interest, but that may be a me problem. Even my music discovery process is me bumping into stuff, and going "I dig this!"

I wholeheartedly support the idea of requiring (or at least strongly encouraging) a submission statement. It will help with discussion, music discovery, and palate-broadening. Otherwise, there isn't really anything beyond the name of the song/band/album and potentially a tag that can spur someone's interest. Also, if you're not willing to write a line or two to convince someone to give it a try, is it really worth posting here?

I'll drop in, I already saw the thread, but my concern was on the specific topic, while his is site-wide.

Either way, post what you want! You never know what's going to be interesting to people. If anyone thinks it's too much they can filter the ~music channel.

If you're worried about crowding out everything else, maybe you can collapse multiple tracks into a single thread as a playlist. So it would be almost like you're giving us a mixtape.

This is a good candidate for automation. We did it in /r/listentothis, see the spotify playlist right here updating in real time. The code for that little tool is right here bit unfortunately it's not python. This one is, though. If you dig around you can find dozens of little projects like this to pull the tracks out of reddit and stuff them into playlists on various services. People have been doing it (and generating hundreds of thousands of views from the aggregate playlists) since back in '09.

Having the l2t playlists on my phone means any time I get into the car, I've got a constant stream of new music... that used to kick the ass of any radio station, anywhere. Reddit's quality slide has diminished that, a significant portion of it is spammer activity dragging down the signal.

I've seen this story play out before, twice - reddit and usenet. Third time's the charm, as they say. :)
