Today RL Grime released his ninth annual Halloween mix. I started listening to RL and the trap whole scene in 2013 but have fallen off over the last few years. Even though I don't listen to a lot of trap music anymore, I will always listen to his Halloween mix for nostalgia. I often still listen to mixes IV and V, since they're my favorite and the best in my opinion.

The majority of my listening this week has been a Spotify song station based on Stop by Skeggs, Australian surf-punk vibes for the most part.

Mostly the new Oneohtrix Point Never album, Magic OPN. And holy fucking shit. It's so good. It's Daniel's music at it's most accessible, yet also a completely original sounding record (not that you'd expect any less from the man). He said he got the idea for the album from listening to his old old mixtapes that he used to record from radio back when that was a thing. I totally get that from listening to this. This album is like getting lost in the radiowaves.

Can't wait for the vinyl to arrive! The cover art is baller, like usual.

You might be interested in this interview with the artist, Robert Beatty. He's done a smattering of covers all across the indie landscape. :)

I have been trying quite hard at music this week because we're in quarantine due to possible covid exposure so are trapped in the house for 14 days (no illness yet, hoping it stays that way!)...

Autechre's new album, SIGN which is rather more chilled out and melodic than their previous, which is sort of what I'm after at the moment. It's still very good.

Beabadoobee's Fake It Flowers, which doesn't quite live up to the single, Care but is still pretty good 90s style indie pop/rock/shoegaze.

London Grammar have had two tracks out recently, Baby it's You and Californian Soil both of which are.. well, they're London Grammar. Hannah Reid's voice just blows me away every single time. Looking forward to their album next year.

Long time coming, BLACKPINK finally have an album out. Imaginatively titled The ALBUM it really just highlights why they're one of the biggest kpop bands in the world right now. Teddy Park absolutely nailing production on a number of tracks and of course the girls perform flawlessly. Even if you don't like kpop you might like some of this. If you do, well, you know about it already.

Also on the kpop front, Mamamoo have a new single, Dinga which I learn from Internet Comments is a Korean word meaning the sound a guitar makes, and also to have fun, do fun things, etc. i dunno. Mamamoo are just fun. I can't not smile when they're playing. Also in the video Moonbyul has cut her hair and this is serious news.

Oh, and some excellent metal played out on the BBC Radio 6 morning show this week, including an interview with Boris just to remind me how much I love them. I also love that I can turn on the radio with my morning cup of tea and hear Napalm Death, Sabbath, SunnO))) and more, then get a mix of hardcore techno just before lunch. Radio 6 is worth the license fee even if I didn't watch any BBC TV (also it's available for streaming worldwide. you're welcome).

Woodkid's S16 has been a highlight. Outside of that, it was a tough week so I pretty much exclusively listened to upbeat pop to try and cheer myself up: Gaga, Carly, Rina, Dua.
