I honestly think they should just keep the system in place indefinitely. It's clear people are still spending money outside of Bandcamp Fridays, and the system no doubt generates an invaluable amount of goodwill and affinity for Bandcamp as a company and platform -- from fans and artists alike.
The first Friday of January is the 1st, which is likely why it won't be happening in January. They could reschedule, but I don't believe that it would have the same impact and may tarnish the rest...

Why would Friday falling on the 1st make them want/need to skip it though?
I think they mean that people would think it was the 1st of every month if they did that?
